Veg Wisdom

The fact is that there is enough food in the world for everyone. But tragically, much of the world's food and land resources are tied up in producing beef and other livestock--food for the well off--while millions of children and adults suffer from malnutrition and starvation. - Dr.Walden Bello

Eugene Veg Education Network (EVEN) Celebrates One-Year Anniversary!

Eugene, OR --- March 1, 2006 --- The Eugene Veg Education Network (EVEN) announces its first year anniversary! EVEN's official 1st year anniversary celebration will take place Monday, March 6, 7 pm, at the McNail-Riley House, 601 W. 13th Av (@ Jefferson) across the street from the fairgrounds. All EVENts are free and open to all.

EVEN is a non-sectarian, non-profit group based in Eugene Oregon serving as a resource for those seeking information on a healthful, vegan lifestyle.

EVEN was organized by Eugene residents and retirees, Lin Silvan and Robert Jacobucci, based on a philosophy of non-violence, compassion and sustainability. Focus is on the interconnectedness of all life and how a plant-based diet benefits the earth, non-human animals, and the individual.

Its Mission Statement is to inform, educate and encourage its members---as well as the larger community---by providing access to pertinent information on veganism and its positive impact on the health of the planet and all its inhabitants.

Concentrating on outreach and education since its March 2005 inception, EVEN has:

  • sponsored monthly educational speakers on such topics as: Vegan Nutrition, Voluntary Simplicity, Ethics of Animal Factories and other subjects relevant to today's health and environmental issues.
  • published an informative and educational monthly newsletter, The EVENing News;
  • been liaison among the local community, many national vegan non-profits, and various health food companies;
  • distributed vegan literature on a regular basis to inquiring Lane County residents; and,
  • fielded over 3300 inquiries on the vegan lifestyle from those interested in the benefits of a plant-based diet.

EVEN supports grassroots efforts and strongly favors and promotes patronage of locally-owned businesses, whenever possible.
